Entropy and Blogging?
Why Entropy for my blog title?? It is one of the few words I remember from my Physics classes. This one especially is from thermodynamics, which I was not a big fan then. But I liked this word as I remember vaguely that it is a degree of disorder. And me being a person who likes a bit of disorder, I guess it is a default (thanks to my software experience) attribute, I thought this would suit. Also the literal meaning of entropy is the uncertainty of an outcome. And for sure in my blogging the only thing I am sure is that I am not sure what is going to come out.
The word ‘default’ reminds me of a friend in the days of our computer classes. We went to a hotel for breakfast and he asked the waiter to get us the 'default'. The waiter (obiviously not a s/w programmer, not sure.. it was during one of the recession period) requested him check the menu again. Btw, this friend of mine is definitely a blogging topic. For sure, sometime later.
Interestingly, when I ‘google’d about entropy, obviously after naming my blog, I found that it has got some importance in communication as well. I am no more interested of entropy and the formulae in thermodynamics. But soft-skills (it is good to ask others to do something that we can’t ;)) being my new interest, tried to read a bit more on that.
As per Shannon's communication theory "the entropy rate, the amount of information you wish to transmit, excceds the channel capacity, then there were unavoidable and uncorrectable errors in the transmission"
It is a theory in Physics, can we humanize it? I would say yes except the fact that human communication has the over burden of emotions...
Now it is lengthier than I think my blog should be. Let me stop here with a piece of advice (courtesy Shannon's information theory), Always understand the information you want to communicate and know your channels (you, receiver and the medium) and capacity very well. And for sure I would take exceptions… After all, that is how we learn... :)
