Is it difficult to throw it in the bin....
No .. I don’t intend
to be philosophical. It was message that I read around the lake nearby my
office, where many other companies are located. And the message was
about the plastic cups that are thrown on the bank of the lakes through the wired
fencing it has.
There was also a
message that they have cleared 8000+ plastic cups from there. Of course, the
lake donned a new cleaner look. The pavements looked decent with more dust
bins. The more important thing in the message I noticed is that, nobody is
claiming credit for it….Either organizations, or individuals.
It reminded me of a
narrow road that I take to office. In a stretch of 200 metres, there are
at least 3 banners which say, "Road asphalting work inaugurated by
...." some names with photographs. I believe these people are the
ones we elected and pay from our pocket. They take huge bribes and put their
poster at our expense.
Ok coming back to the
cups, these cups are thrown by educated young people who work in the offices
around the lake. Of course they are the ones who blame our system for
everything. They are the ones who support every anti-corruption movement. Some
of them could be a part of the go-green movement as well. We teach our kids the
best manners but sets up very bad examples for them.
More than the cleaning
job that they have done, I liked the message that they have passed to the
educated, young but dirty men and women around.
1) For some people, it
was a realization that this place was really dirty before. Either you or one
among you is responsible for this mess.
2) For some people, it
could be a realization that we are taking additional effort to pollute our
environment.
3) It is a ray of hope
that some people are ready to dirty their hands to contribute to the man kind.
4) Last but not the
least, the selfless service that they have provided. Nobody claims credit to
the good deed done. They did it like a prayer to mother earth “Forgive these
sinners”.
And this makes me feel
responsible to appreciate and spread the message. Please don’t pollute, if not to contribute. It is our responsibility to take this message seriously for our
coming generations, if not for the mankind.
PS. By the time I
could post this blog, I see the plastic cups have started piling up. What to
blame??? Our education???
Why blame our education? The same educated people are very concerned about the environment when they are outside of India. Blame it on the local administration? Fear of getting caught.
ReplyDeleteA good article...I have a similar one in my blog that I wrote a few years back. We can't change the world but we can do our bit wherever and however possible. Every little helps!!
Thank you for the comment Biju!! Yeah you are right... we are well behaved outside our country. We are blame the administration. But we too are a part of the system that allows us to do this.
DeleteWoh! Super article Sob's. lol yes this article atleast will keep me going for sometime to maintain my civic manners but yes its the culture, the laziness and the innate human tendency to destroy my sorrounding which will reign supreme over a period of time. I had read somewhere the reasoning of why man is the supreme (most dangerous) animal to have dominated the planet because we are the only biological animal to possess the power to change our enivornment. And biju i beg to differ, please india is not the most polluted environment nor do we (indians) lack the civic sense but yes we could do better. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Sushrut!!! Well said..it is natural to boosted up for sometime and then get back to our natural ways..
DeleteAs you said... if humans have the power to change the environment.. then letz try to do it in a way that is good for us.
good one Sobi garu!!, i remember that day when we went to Ooty, Badri was so particular of not allowing us to throw the plastic covers, instead he collected those to put in trash. This only tells me we need descipline, need to sharpen our civic sense. It is good to tell/write, but are we practicing? good question :). Let us all observe our thoughts and actions that must help us!
ReplyDeleteYes Srini garu. Yes I agree.. we need more disciplined individuals like Badari.. in our society.
DeleteGood one Sobi, this is for all of us ... we just tend to forget our surroundings when we are outside of our home but would not tolerate it in our home ...
ReplyDeleteThanks Chandu!! You are right... we think our responsibility is just to keep our houses clean.
